It’s safe to say that the majority of Ithaca College students have officially gone into hibernation. Though I commonly describe the harsh Ithaca winter, I can confirm that this week is the coldest yet. It seems as though the low number of Fashionistas I spot and the wind chill are directly correlated. However, the situation isn’t as bad as it may seem. At the very least, the cold weather gives us an excuse to drink more hot chocolate and wear a scarf every day of the week.
Due to the scarf trend at Ithaca College, I was immediately attracted to this Fashionista and her memorable skull adorned fabric. It was too cold to photograph this Fashionista without her winter jacket, but underneath she was wearing a floral sweater. This combined with her skull scarf gave her the perfect combination of edgy and sweet.
Fur is also huge trend on the Ithaca College campus lately, so it was no surprise to see this Fashionista sporting a faux fur hood. Her utility jacket is also the perfect length. Since the winds can be strong during the day, it is important to choose coats that cover at least 50 percent of your body. However, many students go overboard and get swallowed up in winter coats that are too big. Puffy parkas are great, but not at the expense of looking like you’re wearing a portable sleeping bag. Either opt for a utility style jacket like this Fashionista or choose a parka that goes no further down than the middle of your calves.
I was also very intrigued by this Fashionista’s backpack. It turns out that her particular brand of bag was originally designed for Swedish school children in 1978, according to the Fjällräven website. The bags come in a wide variety of colors and seem to be both durable and unique.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love faux furs because they are both soft and warm.”
