Growing up in Indianapolis, Indiana, the summers have always been extremely warm both day and night. All thanks to this lovely monster call humidity, destroyer of the perfect hair day and cause of excess sweat. The thoughts of owning a summer sweater had never crossed my mind until a vacation in cool and windy California. Before the fog burned off in the mornings, the cool summer breeze required a sweater. Digging through my refrigerator-sized suitcase, I did not find one sweater. Naturally, the only way to solve this problem was by going on a little shopping trip. I have found my summer sweaters are perfect for a night beneath the stars, surrounded by friends and a camp fire!
This Fashionista is wearing a cream colored, eyelet sweater, which is perfect for a warmer summer night. Assuming you run a little on the warmer side, I would suggest a short sleeve sweater from Anthropologie. Unless you are similar to me, always freezing, then the long sleeve sweater from J.Crew is a better choice. A third option, which is more fashion forward, would be the oversized sweater! Nordstrom has a wide variety of choices on oversized sweaters. The one that struck my fancy is a knit, V-neck sweater by Vince. Plus, the sweater may come in handy during the fall and spring seasons!
The Fashionista completed the look with a pair of jean shorts and combat boots. The cream, lace trim on the high-waisted shorts is the perfect accent. The combat boots’ rusty color balances the tension between the masculinity of the boots, and femininity of the shorts and sweater. Be careful selecting the proper boot for this outfit; a boot that is too masculine will clash with the rest of the outfit.
