“Steeze” – a frequently used slang fashion term to describe a Fashionista/o that can effortlessly rock the streetwear swag. Streetwear has been an emerging trend for the past couple of months, popping up in collections from Alexander Wang to Tom Ford. Utilizing the look of “I just left the gym” with influences from the ‘90s hip-hop scene, streetwear makes workout-esque attire appropriate for, well, on-the-street wear. No longer is it unacceptable to leave the house wearing an XL T-shirt and baggy sweatpants. In fact, streetwear designers commend it. Streetwear revolves around the notion of street fashion being comfy yet couture.
I first noticed this Fashionisto’s iconic streetwear Supreme coat overflowing with “steeze.” Straying away from the traditional red box-logo of the brand, this black bomber-styled coat plays on the idea of vertically branding down the sleeves, a look I have yet to see from Supreme. The brand Supreme was founded around this proposed style of streetwear, gravitating towards punk-rock bandies, hip-hoppers and the skate culture alike. Supreme has always been known for its high-quality manufacturing and authenticity, never veering too far from what it is generally known for—streetwear.
In addition to his killer coat, this Fashionisto continues seamlessly with the streetwear vibe by wearing a classic pair of Van’s skate shoes and distressed jeans cuffed at the bottoms. His rap-inspired scoop oversized T-shirt plays on the hip-hop historical concept of streetwear, and the inner fur lining of his jacket adds materialistic contrast to the entire outfit. Keeping in mind the cold, he wears a Carhartt hat to keep warm from the chilly Chicago winds.
