Is there ever a fashion trend you’ve been dying to try, but you know that it would be too out of your comfort zone to pull it off? That is how I feel with the classic, coastal American trend. I am absolutely obsessed with this trend, and I follow almost every account I can that showcases this style (hello, Kiel James Patrick, Sarah Vickers and L.L.Bean). I am constantly inspired by how authentic this trend is and when I bumped into this Fashionisto after class, I had to know more about his outfit.
With spring on its way, the number of people seen around campus bundled up is starting to deplete. However, temperatures are always unpredictable, especially in northeast Ohio, so the layering is vital. Not sure how to tap into the coastal style with layering? Take notes from this Fashionisto, who pulls off his look layers and a mix of warm and earth tones. It’s simple to follow this trend, which usually starts with a button-up shirt put together with a cozy knit sweater. To add an extra bit of warmth, this Fashionisto paired his prep school-like sweater with an ultra cool forest green vest. Keeping the American lifestyle alive by having a variety of colors, his corduroy pants are the perfect blend. Finishing off this look, he decided to go for a subtler color for his shoes, donning a sophisticated pair of G.H. Bass & Co. loafers, fit for any guy who wants to look like they are about to set sail for the perfect New England summer. Of course, you cannot forget the accessories, which he kept to a minimum, yet they make a statement. Keeping the color palette the same, he paired a great KJP bracelet with a Wellington watch on his opposite wrist.
There is nothing like classic American style. It is constantly reemerging with every season and is a versatile trend to say the least, which is as equally compelling to those who identify with this style tribe and to those who long for it. Take notes and do research like this Fashionisto, who is sure to always keep this trend alive.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I am inspired by a lot of vintage aspects in fashion like icons, literature and old magazines. I find that and looking at how trends evolve so important! Vintage Esquire magazines, L.L.Bean catalogs and The Preppy Handbook are my go-to when reading. JFK is my style icon and I constantly look at old photos of him for outfit ideas.”
