Sure, playing it safe in a monochromatic, sleek and chic ensemble is a safe and fashionable choice. But why not take a little bit of a risk in something more funky and out there? Check out this summer boho look from an English major at the University of Utah. Standing at five feet tall, this Fashionista is a pintsized mixture of class and sass. Her outfit is a fun combo of basics paired with statement pieces.
Layered on top of her basic cami, she has a floral crochet top. The flowers on the piece create a feminine texture with some dimension. Her cool shorts contribute a pop of color, more visual interest from the pattern and even more texture thanks to the trim. The basic ballet flat this Fashionista chose is good choice to balance out everything. After all, there is a lot going on already. But if you want to take the look up a notch, a wedge heel or gladiator sandal could be a killer substitution! Slapping on the circle-framed sunnies added the final dash of carefree attitude. Talk about all these elements coming together for an eclectic, yet cohesive party!
Remember, don’t be afraid to channel your inner hippie and bring together different textiles in perfect harmony. Choose pieces that are unique and can stand alone, but then try and combine them. Staying in your comfort zone can get you by. But taking a risk can make you thrive.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I like to try and mix things up with what I wear. I think it’s cool to pair things together, bordering on possibly having too much going on. If someone wants to try mixing together pattern and texture, but play it safe, try it in all neutral tones. I’m young, so now is the time to experiment a little (or a lot)!”
