STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: That '70s Girl

So, Fashionistas/os, as all things do, 2015 is quickly coming to a close. Before we know it, we will be halfway through 2016 and left wondering where the year, and our New Year’s Resolutions went. I know that as the weather starts to get cold and things start wrapping up, it can be tempting to throw on our trusty black leggings and a puffy winter coat to head to class. however, I’m begging you Fashionistas/os, don’t give in. Put on your favorite jeans, brush your hair and take on what’s left of 2015 in style. Recently, a streak of warm weather has blessed us here in NYC, bringing out the best of on-campus style. The puffer jackets have just barely been brushed off and everyone, including this gorgeous Fashionista, are taking full advantage of this unusual heat streak.

I spotted this Fashionista breezing her way across campus on a particularly nice day in a midi dress she stole from her mom’s closet in order to make her own. She said, “I didn’t tell her, but I took it because it just wasn’t right for her anymore. I had to re-work it and cuff the sleeves, and I’m aiming to make it into a pantsuit.” The silhouette is classic, and the subtle floral pattern is a great way to modernize the florals of the ’70s. Going with the ’70s vibes of this look, she paired the dress with a pair of suede gray heeled booties and the ultimate ’70s leather fringed purse. The booties are so in right now, and could make any outfit look chic, while the bag pulls the entire look together from top to bottom.

To accessorize, this ’70s queen went for the minimal look. Her gold bar earrings are such a simple way to add a little glamour to her outfit, along with the thin necklaces she layered around her neck. When taking on a decade-inspired outfit, I have found that excess accessories are rarely necessary. To get the point across, select a few key pieces, as she did with the dress, bag and earrings, and keep it simple with everything else. It is the best way to rock a retro look, while still keeping things current.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I always like to mix a little old with new. Whether it be a vintage statement ring, accessory or a larger piece, they’re sure to add a unique touch to any look!”
