STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: That's So '70s

With the 2015 fall trends bringing influential styles from the 1970s back, it can be challenging to identify what pieces to add to your wardrobe and even more challenging to scrape together the funds to purchase that new suede skirt or those platform shoes you’ve had in your online shopping cart for weeks. We can all agree that after buying your semester load of textbooks and ordering copious amounts of coffee to stay up late and read those said textbooks, having extra cash to go out shopping for new clothes can be a rare occurrence.

That is why thrift stores (even online markets like Etsy) and inexpensive mainstream stores such as Forever 21 or H&M are a blessing! With the ’70s craze this season, check out your local thrift shops or Forever 21 to see if you can find classically ’60s/’70s pieces. Chunky heels with a nice platform, high-waisted wide leg pants or a mint condition Afghan style suede and shearling coat. When it comes to taking style hints from that influential time of fashion history for this fall, think less of the flower child bohemian style that is so popular during Halloween and more along the lines of structured skirts or dresses with a classic fitted turtleneck for a polished yet still whimsical look.

Taking notes from this Fashionista, and knowing how to combine your current, modern style with any trend is a useful and important ability! Figuring out your personal look will allow you to gravitate towards trendy pieces that can enhance your closet.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK?  “I’m really into mixing decades right now. This outfit is heavily inspired by the ’60s/’70s (a current trend that I absolutely love) with the suede skirt and shearling/corduroy jacket, but I also added my Dr. Martens to give the look some ’90s grunge vibes.”
