If you haven’t already noticed, some major styles from the 1990s have been reappearing in the last few years. From high-waisted pants (and shorts) to crop tops, turtlenecks, and silky tops, it’s almost impossible to walk into a retail store and NOT find something that either looks straight out of the ’90s or is an adaption of a ’90s style.
The great thing about looking to an era for style inspiration is that these fashions can be transferable to essentially every season! Turtlenecks can be found in all sleeve styles (sleeveless, short sleeve, long sleeve, etc.) and high-waisted bottoms can be purchased as either shorts or pants. Along with those, a staple ’90s piece, the grungy plaid flannel shirt, can be found in styles for all seasons (sleeveless, rolled sleeves, and full sleeves).
The most iconic style from the 1990s is layering, and this provides the opportunity to layer lighter garments (for spring and summer) and heavier garments (for fall and winter).
Another great perk to the ’90s making a major comeback is that the best places to find garments directly from the 1990s are thrift stores. And do you know what’s magical about thrift stores? They have countless hidden treasures and merchandise that is well in my budget. Also, thrift stores are pretty much everywhere, so your vintage items are never difficult to find.
This Fashionista styled her ’90s-inspired outfit by wearing a plaid sleeveless button up shirt, black leggings, and her adorably chic booties. To add to the grungy feel of her outfit, she wore an embellished black choker and a black wide-brimmed hat. Implementing a modern take on the style makes all the difference when channeling the ’90s.
