I love how a kimono can complete an outfit. In this shoot a Towson Fashionista, is wearing a kimono and a crop top with high-waisted pants. This complete look is appropriate for campus and classrooms. Kimonos can make the simplest outfits chic and put together. Especially when you’re on campus one needs to rock the comfortable cute. Why must we dress comfortably? It’s important to feel comfortable looking good for fellow peers as well as for one self. Also, an uncomfortable outfit can be distracting from one’s studies and class lectures.
The kimono trend has lasted in the fashion world for years now. The kimono is as old as the movie Scatter my Ashes at Bergdorfs which came out in 2013. The movie featured iconic names like the Olsen Twins and Karl Lagerfeld. I remember the designer Ally Hilfiger, Tommy Hilfiger’s daughter was wearing a kimono as she showed her collection to Linda Fargo, the Vice President and director for Bergdorf Goodman.
A kimono can be a signature look. There are several different kinds that come with different prints, they come in cotton, or sheer, long or short and thick or thin. This particular kimono, is sheer yellow with detailed navy blue beads which matched the color of the print on the Fashionista’s high-waisted pants. Towson University’s campus has high-waisted pants everywhere and they are slimming, comfortable and even a bit sexy.
High-waisted jeans with a crop top go together on the Towson campus while also being appropriate for a night out in Uptown Towson. This Fashionista is wearing a day-to-night outfit. It can be dressed down with flip flops and the light weight kimono, or dressed up with heeled booties and some visible skin like the midriff and shoulders.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I bought a patterned kimono because if you’re wearing plain black it can add color to it. Kind of the same thing with the one I’m wearing in the photos, it adds a little bit to a plain outfit. Also the weather it is wearable in the fall or really any season.”
