Valentine’s day has come and gone and so has my hope for a fit body for Spring Break. (Thank you discount chocolate). It’s not like I’ll spend my break at the beach anyways; I’ll be sitting at a desk in an office, 8-5 all week, saving up for my summer abroad. Now if only I could stop spending all of my money dining out.
Last week I took a trip downtown and after a delicious lunch of hipster tacos and agave lemonade, I took a stroll through downtown Gainesville, and wondered for the hundredth time why I don’t make the trip there more often. It was then that I saw her, this Fashionista confidently walking on the cobblestone in block heels, with the wind seeming to caress the hair off her face, while mine seemed to be caught in a vortex of its own. I grabbed her and put her in front of the coolest painted wall that I could find, because luckily downtown is full of them.
What really caught my eye about this Fashionista’s look is her subtle mix of textures. Her pleather skater skirt matched with the knit sweater and snakeskin block heels caused the eyes to pleasantly dance as they gave her a once, or maybe twice over. A mixed-metal layered necklace and berry lip tied the look together.
Mixing textures is everywhere in fashion today. You can pair a jean jacket with a lace dress, or leather pants with a silk blouse. Mixing textures adds dimensionality to an outfit, making it more interesting to look at, and more fun to play with when accessorizing.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love that I can take an old frumpy sweater and make it look edgy with accessories. Although I recommend checking the forecast before leaving the house—today was way too windy for a skirt!”
