As college students, sometimes we feel like we just can’t consistently keep up with the latest and hottest fashion trends. This may be due to the small budget we’ve had to adapt to—let’s be honest, our wallets aren’t as full as they once were when mom and/or dad’s money was at our disposal. Or, it may be due to the fact that we’re just plain busier than we used to be. With constant papers and tests, not to mention that possible internship or job on the side, we don’t always have the spare time or energy to go snatch that new item everyone’s been raving about. Many a student, myself included, finds him or herself frustrated as he or she struggles to pick from the same closet season after season. However, this season, we’re in luck, because we’re going back to the basics. This summer you can feel confident that your plain white T-shirt and classic Converse All-Stars will earn you sufficient style points!
Words like simplicity, versatility and comfort have been dominating the world of fashion both on and off the runways this season. Designers like Marc Jacobs, Céline, Balenciaga and Chloé called for a return to streamlined designs and neutral colors with their spring/summer 2015 collections. Celebrity style icons like Kendall and Kylie Jenner have taken the “Back to the Basics” movement a step further with a nod to classics like slip-on sneakers and sportswear.
This Fashionisto demonstrated such great mastery of the basics. I had to get a closer look! His gray denim and navy blue pocket T-shirt are perfect complements to one another; with their cool color tones, these elements keep the overall color palette neutral. He even added a few handmade bracelets that tied in with the cool-toned color scheme as well. This Fashionisto also sported a couple timeless classics like his white lace-up Vans and Ray-Ban Clubmaster sunglasses. He topped off the look with a black Herschel backpack with simple leather detail. With elements like these, you really can’t go wrong. The look is effortless, and that’s what makes it so on-trend.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Comfort should always come first when it comes to clothing because if you don’t feel good in what you’re wearing, you’re just not going to look good.”
