Though winter has arrived a bit late this year, I know exactly what to do once the temperatures start dropping—break out my collection of scarves and sweaters. While shopping for warm tops in the winter, I make a beeline to the basic black and white sweaters. Staple sweaters are a necessity in every closet. This Fashionista’s outfit shows how to easily kick a simple black sweater up a notch.
In the past, plaid has been typically seen on flannels. I am thrilled that plaid is finally branching out from only being worn at barn dances to adding pattern and dimension in a basic outfit. I have seen plaid all over this winter season, from capes to skirts. I can’t get enough of it! This Fashionista’s black and white plaid scarf is completely on trend because of its cozy feel. It can be easy to only wear this pattern in the fall due to the warm, rustic colors that usually accompany plaid items. For the winter, steer toward dark colors like black and navy with hints of white and gray!
For bottoms, I love how this Fashionista opted for a subtle pop of color with her dark purple jeans. Since she went monochrome with all other parts of her outfit, the wine color perfectly tied this outfit together. Though it snowed the night before, she braced the cold and wore her short, black booties. On the zipper, there is a small tassel that you would not notice if you weren’t looking for it. I love the simplicity of this element of her boot.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Mix up your winter basics, like a plain black sweater with different scarves. That way you can wear them multiple times but they look completely different!”
