STYLE ADVICE: Opposites Attract

If you’re ever in a rut deciding what to wear, instead of searching for shoes to match a particular top, look for pieces that pose as opposites. Some of the best outfits emerge from juxtaposing classic looks, and two of my favorite styles to contrast are feminine and athleisure. Whether it be through combining leather with lace or sneakers with jewelry, two seemingly clashing pieces can often come together to create a unique and instantly fashionable look.

Lucky for us, “winter” in San Diego calls for merely a jean jacket or light coat. This Fashionista dresses accordingly in a leather bomber jacket. For the fall and winter seasons especially, one can never go wrong with black. Pairing the dark color with softer tones often yields the most stylish results. Instead of ballet slippers to match the pale pink one-piece, this Fashionista adds an edge to her outfit with black Puma lace-ups that she got for Christmas. I’m sure by now everyone knows that the Fenty Puma by Rihanna Creepers won the 2016 Shoe of the Year Award, creating a huge resurgence of consumer interest in the brand. This meant that Puma shoes, of any style, were at the top of many holiday wish lists, including this Fashionista’s (she conveniently bought the sneakers once they were on sale for $59). The high-top style incorporates both the sporty and the chic by resembling classic basketball shoes. This Fashionista’s soft golden eyeshadow and subtle red lip also contribute to the more “girly” aspects of this look.
