Walking down the streets of Pittsburgh, I love the rustic, homey feel as if everyone somehow knows each other. Maybe it’s their united love for the Pittsburgh Steelers or their famous Primanti Brothers’ sandwiches, but something about this place just makes you feel at ease with it’s welcoming atmosphere. Downtown, throughout the towering buildings and street vendors, one particular look caught my eye. It looked very New York in a Pittsburgh setting. My Fashionista looked like she belonged in American Horror Story: Coven—black on black on more black. As a makeup artist, she’s always required to wear black on the job, and she found a way to make it her own.
On a sunny Pittsburgh day, she chose to wear a chic, floppy hat, perfect to protect her skin from those UVA rays. When it comes to hats make sure to find something that frames your face well. Her stature is pretty small so she chose a hat that didn’t have such a large brim and fit her face perfectly. Being a makeup artist, she is especially conscious of her skin. She usually walks to work, so her boots were perfect with a medium sized heel. Although my fashionista is only five feet her boots still manage to make her legs look fairly long. When wearing boots with jeans always try to find some that stop just below the knee to keep your legs from looking non existant. Her form fitting black top is actually a bodysuit. The bodysuit gives her an hourglass shape and accentuates her curves. It is a subtle, yet essential, piece that completes this look.
I couldn’t help but laugh when it came to her accessories. Everything was pretty typical; she had a fresh nude matte manicure, rhinestone rings and Alex and Ani bracelets. As cliche as it may seem, my Fashionista’s bracelet was reppin’ the Steelers. Was I surprised? Definitely not. My Fashionista laughed as I inspected the bracelets, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from a Pittsburgh native.
When wearing outfits that are toned down I think you should always add accessories. My fashionistas accessories bring out a playful vibe to the all black outfit and create the final touches to an otherwise perfect look. Always be mindful of your look and create a vision of what you want the outcome to be. Don’t be afraid to add anything that makes your look unique to you and always be confident and fearless in what you choose!
