When I thought of cold weather, I would always think that every city would be a winter wonderland runway, where everybody is rocking their coolest outfits as they walk through clean streets where there’s only white snow on the sides. Nobody would worry about the melted snow and messy streets ruining their shoes. But that would be too good to be true and the reality is that we have to get up, dress up, and show up even when the sky is falling down at the lowest temperatures.
Attending Michigan State University, I have realized that as winter break ends, the days get darker and shorter, and all we want to do is bundle up in as many layers as possible. I have to admit that I have always been a “black is the new black” kind of girl, and I think it perfectly fits any winter outfit for any occasion.
In this Fashionista’s outfit, a black 3/4 sleeve shirt is combined with a wool kimono. This kind of layering is great to rock a casual look while staying stylish and warm around campus, and it can be combined with black gloves if the temperatures are even lower. She is also wearing black leggings, which as we all know, is the comfiest bottoms choice and burgundy suede sneakers that stand out during a grey day.
At this time of the year, we all get a little lazier about our outfits because we want to focus on our comfort, but the truth is that during this season, less can be more. We don’t need a lot of colors and patterns to stand out. Wearing a pair of pants with layers on top might be the perfect go-to on any day.
There is usually not enough skin left to accessorize a lot, so putting on a felt floppy hat can be the perfect touch to give your outfit the stylish look that you can’t get with a beanie.
Yes, we need to stay warm, but we always need to stay stylish.
