STYLE GUR BIO: Megan Lepore

Hello my fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Megan Lepore, and I am an upcoming sophomore at Manhattan College. As a Biology major, I am not able to fit many creative courses into my schedule, but the one aspect where I have the ability to express myself is through fashion. This will be my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, and I am thrilled to be starting my adventure as a fall Style Guru!

I grew up in a beautiful town in New Jersey; it’s uniqueness and character makes it my favorite place to retreat in the summer, but I have found a new home in New York City. A huge misconception about Manhattan College is that is located in Manhattan, but in actuality it is located in the Bronx. Our campus is just a short subway ride away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan where the sidewalks are practically New Yorker’s runways. It is so exciting and inspiring to be around such diverse and eclectic fashion. I am happy to call the most famous fashion capital of the world my home!

I cannot say that I have always been a “Fashionista.” I have had my fair share of fashion disasters, but that is what middle school is for right? Thankfully, over the years I was able to outgrow my childish fashion sense and dabble in a sophisticated range of styles. My mother always taught me to purchase staple pieces in order to build myself a wardrobe that will last for decades to come. Her motto is always: “Quality over quantity.” Yet that does not mean I purchase ridiculously expensive items: I live for getting the perfect bargain. I believe the best feeling is the satisfaction of purchasing a piece of clothing for a fraction of the original cost.

To label my fashion sense, I would say my aesthetic is simple, but classic. Primarily I find myself to be very preppy, but that does not mean that I lack an appreciation for other types of styles. Simple, preppy clothing is just my comfort zone. My typical fall outfit consists of wearing lots of layers of clothing. Layers are the perfect way to style yourself in the fall because the weather is constantly changing. The way I see it, it’s the perfect opportunity to wear five of your favorite pieces at once and still look fashionable! I often times take my fashion risks on my weekly adventures into the city with friends. If it’s brunch, a walk in Central Park, a shopping trip in Soho or going to dinner to our favorite Mexican restaurant, Blockheads, the fashion opportunities in NYC are endless!
