I have been going back and forth on how to start off this article and nothing better came to mind than “Hello, my name is Abby Miller.” Although a quite blunt introduction, it’s effective and to the point. I go to Salisbury University, about half an hour out from Ocean City, Maryland (woo!) and this year coming I will be a sophomore. I am studying elementary education with a minor in mathematics. I love working with children and have always wanted to be a teacher; however, I had occasionally questioned if there was something else I wanted to do. I adventured and tried new things from various sports to crafting and—you guessed it—fashion.
Fashion and beauty have both made more of an impact on me than I have ever expected them to. At first I did it just as a hobby, something to keep me entertained. Turns out, it became one of my passions and every day I look at it as a part of who I am. Not only does it give me more confidence; it’s a way I can express myself better than any words could.
Take this outfit I chose, for example. Some people might just see a T-shirt and a pair of pants, but to me and just about any other fashionista/o there’s more to it than just fabric. In my personal style I like to combine different pieces to create my own unique looks. I find that torn boyfriend jeans and the layered choker give off a more edgy vibe, whereas the off-the-shoulder top is more girly with the lace detailing. To top off the look, I chose my adidas superstar sneakers to give it more of a sporty feel. Although it seems like a lot to throw into the mix, it’s what I like and what I am comfortable in. One of the most important tips I could ever give anyone about fashion is to personalize it to their own style versus what they think other people would like to see. It’s about expressing yourself, having fun and playing around with new looks to find the one that suits you best.
I couldn’t be more excited to have this wonderful opportunity to be a part of CollegeFashionista where I can share my own take on fashion and beauty.
