STYLE GURU BIO: Abby Myers

Hello Fashionistas and Fashionistos! I am so excited to be a part of the wonderful and fabulous CollegeFashionista team. I am a Retail Management major at Purdue University, and I am eager to share with you all the trendy and fashion savvy students that we have here at Purdue.

I’d like to start with a quote by one of my favorite designers, Coco Chanel. Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” This quote encompasses my personal feelings toward fashion. Although I like to change my style often, I would describe myself as boho-chic. I tend to wear a lot of Free People clothing, and I am a frequent shopper at stores like Urban Outfitters and PacSun. I am obsessed with the laid-back and free-spirited vibe that their clothes give off. I love incorporating nature, art and everything our amazing world has to offer us into my outfits. I believe that everything we encounter in our daily lives influences the way we dress.

Growing up in a west suburb in Chicago, I was constantly exposed to the latest fashion trends. Malls, shops and boutiques were easily accessible with just a quick walk downtown, a 20-minute drive to the mall or, the best option, a train ride into the city. Ever since I was a little girl, the city of Chicago has mesmerized me. From the endless miles of high-end shops and department stores to Michigan Avenue’s never-ending blocks of retailers like Hugo Boss and Ralph Lauren, Chicago has never lost its enchanting spell on me. Needless to say, I am, and always will be, a city girl.

That being said, the adjustment from the urban sprawl of Chicago to the vast cornfields of Indiana has been a tad difficult. Just as you would expect from a small town in the middle of Indiana, the nearest mall is a 45-minute bus ride away. Although there are not very many retailers or stores in West Lafayette, there is one thing we do have: inspiration. At a school known for engineering, the students at Purdue are innovative not only in the classroom, but in their fashion sense, too.

I am looking forward to showcasing all the great looks and unique styles that Purdue University students have to offer as well as learning a thing or two about the trends here on campus. I’m excited to be starting off the week with a bang by posting my weekly street style articles each Monday. Be sure to check in weekly and see all the chic styles that cover the campus of Purdue University!
