STYLE GURU BIO: Alexa Hagan

Hello fellow Style Gurus, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name’s Alexa and I am a sophomore at Pace University in New York City studying marketing. You might find me either at a coffee shop, on the Brooklyn Bridge snapping pictures of the sunset, or on Instagram scrolling through some of my favorite fashion, lifestyle, travel, and beauty blogs. I have always loved Manhattan, the opportunities are endless and there is never an excuse to be bored. As a native New Yorker who loves the hustle and bustle lifestyle, I also enjoy the laidback beach life. After living in the city for a good portion of my life, I must fulfill my dream of living and working in California for a couple years at some point in my life.

Living in New York City, it is inevitable that one will be influenced by the diverse fashion styles that one comes across on a daily basis. Ever since I was in middle school I have had an interest in the fashion industry, but felt like I needed to have a top-notch wardrobe and know how to perfectly put together an outfit in order to work in it. Fast forward to college, I still assumed that I needed a signature style to be involved in anything fashion related, until I went to my first fashion club meeting at my school. The room was filled with different people and none of them were dressed the same. I learned in the club that the fashion industry is not just for the gifted, creative, and artistic ones, but also for the more business savvy ones, like myself. Once I figured out that I want to be involved in the business end of the fashion industry while still following my interests, I realized that I finally found my niche.

In general, I have a simple style. I rely on shoes and accessories to dress up or dress down an outfit. Black jeans are always my go-to whether they are ripped, cuffed, distressed, or a fresh dark pair. Black booties are also an essential; they look good with almost anything and add a chic look. Rain or shine, sunglasses are a must—whether you are trying to shield your eyes from the sun, avoid eye contact with someone you’re not in the mood to talk to, or to prop them next to your coffee for an artsy flat lay photo, they always come in handy. Cat-eye shaped sunglasses are a complementary for a round face, and can make anyone look bold and fearless. My purse is the last thing I grab when leaving my dorm, but, in my opinion, is a major contributor to an outfit. I love switching up the fabrics of my bags when wanting to make a statement, such as this mauve suede purse.

I can’t wait to learn about different styles and showcase my own style and the rad styles I spot on campus with my fellow Fashionista/os!
