Karl Lagerfeld once said: “One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress.”
Hello Fashionista/os! My name is Alexa and this quote may as well be my life motto. I am a junior at Kent State University majoring in fashion merchandising with a double minor in marketing and fashion media. I originally come from the notorious city of Pittsburgh, and love everything about the city lifestyle. I have always been interested in fashion, but it was not until a few years ago that I really considered it as a career.
Three years ago I joined Charlotte Russe as a sales associate and have fallen in love with the fashion industry over time. With the opportunities and experience my manager has given me so far, I have been able to get more than the retail store experience. I have gained so much knowledge about corporate and what steps are taken before a retail store can function and succeed. This job made me realize that I wanted to learn more; so I then decided to go to fashion school and learn as much about the industry as I could.
As I stated before, Karl Lagerfeld spoke my exact thoughts in his quote. I have a tendency to choose garments that are black, white and grey out of habit. I love anything black and probably own well over 10 black dresses. To add color to my outfits, I tend to choose accessories with a lot of detail or bright colors to balance out the neutral-toned colors in my clothes. I always say, if I lived in the ’70s I would have been a hippie and that couldn’t be further from the truth. I consider myself a free spirit and love the boho style. I find a way to always dress it up because, let’s be honest, what girl doesn’t love to get dressed up?
As a fashion media minor, I’m a huge social media fan! I’m constantly on Instagram and I have my own fashion blog. I get a lot of my inspiration from the infamous blogger Luanna Perez-Garreaud by viewing her blog, LEHAPPY and her social media daily.
What I love about CollegeFashionista is the large range of diversity it displays in the world of fashion. So many of us gurus have different tastes and styles, so it’s a really cool thing to see so many unique styles featured in articles. CollegeFashionista provides the opportunity for young people to express themselves and show their passion for style. As Coco Chanel said: “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
