STYLE GURU BIO: Alexa Spiroff

I am a fierce capricorn born in January of 1996 and raised in southern California. My family eventually relocated to Ohio where I spent my teens before moving to Utah to attend college. I am half Macedonian, part hippie, part gypsy, mixed with a smidge of old soul, rock and roll spirit, and creative genius.

Ever since I was a little girl I have loved fashion. Even at a young age, my outfit and jewelry had to be perfectly put together. My mother would often ask, “Why are you so dolled up? We are just going to the grocery store,” to which I would respond, “You never know who you’re going to run in to.”

I have an eclectic style and an unique ability to anticipate and pinpoint trends. I am never afraid to experiment and play with my own styling ideas when it comes to hair, makeup, and fashion.

My love for fashion later turned into a love for styling, concept design, photography, art direction, and advertising. I am extremely detail oriented. I put a lot of thought into anything visual—from the color, the background, location, props, makeup and wardrobe down to the ring on a finger. I believe every little aspect is important as it collectively conveys a mood or message. To put it simply, I know how to make things look good.

I was recently accepted into the competitive advertising program at Brigham Young University-Provo with an emphasis in art direction. So far in my major, I have been fortunate enough to play the role of both photographer and creative director allowing me the opportunity to sharpen my creative skills.

I also have a passion to help heal the world in some way, especially through poverty alleviation and anti-human trafficking efforts. I love nature, good food, yoga, tea, and dancing like everybody’s watching.

In the pictures above I am definitely channeling my girly 1970s vibes. I am wearing a long-sleeved, vintage floral-patterned dress, lace-up high heel suede booties, and complementary jewelry to make the subtle colors in the dress pop. My hair can be hard to tame, but with the help of curling gel and a hair diffuser I can produce perfect waves and volume. Perhaps my favorite piece of this outfit is my earrings. They are an interesting twist of vintage and gypsy, and they bring out the blue in my dress perfectly. I also added a maroon lace choker and several bracelets with bright jewel tones, which tie in the bright jewels in the earrings. Since it is January in Utah, I added black tights and a classic little black crossbody bag to keep all my lipstick handy.

I am so excited to be a Style Guru and hope I get the opportunity to know more of you! I love meeting new people and working with other creative geniuses, so feel free to reach out to me anytime and have a rad semester!
