STYLE GURU BIO: Alexis Atkins

Hi fellow Fashionistas/os, my name is Alexis Atkins and I am back at it again with my fourth time being a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. I attend Savannah College of Art and Design. And this year I will be entering my senior year towards obtaining a degree in Fashion Marketing and Management. After graduation, I hope to pursue a career that keeps me immersed in the fashion industry but also enables me to explore my other passions like photography and writing.

It’s always great to watch the runway shows each year but I think street style is where it’s at. I love watching how fashion lovers adapt a style trend into their own wardrobe. Each person will wear the trend a little bit differently. Each person expresses their style differently but seeing those runway ideals applied to “real life,” is what I believe designers really want to see. Fashion is all about evolution and adaptation and I feel that street style is the best example of this idea.

My own personal style is classic with a trendy twist. I like to have my core pieces like dark wash jeans and T-shirts but then I like to mix in bold statement prints or a hot item for the season. I definitely prefer comfortability in my clothing. When I am not comfortable it shows on my face because I don’t feel confident. Especially in the summer months, I go for clothing that breathes like flowing kimonos and simple summer dresses to keep me nice and cool.

The look I am wearing, is one that highlights my classic with trendy style. Denim is a staple item this year. From patch work to distressed, denim is on trend but it’s also a classic. Denim has been around for centuries so you can never go wrong with a classic pair of blues.

I keep this look fairly simple. My jeans are a high-waist, cropped dark wash jean from Forever 21. Tucked in to my jeans, I have on a classic white T-shirt. These two pieces form the base of my look. On top, I’ve layered this vintage denim jacket from a local boutique on campus. Then I wrapped up the outfit with patent leather crisscross sandals and some tortoise shell Ray-Bans.

Fashion doesn’t have to be expensive or overly flashy. It can simply be just you.

I look forward to capturing this summer’s trends and documenting all right here for CollegeFashionista.
