Hello, fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! I am Ali Neglio and I am a student at the University of South Florida studying Communications with a focus in Culture and Media. I am a returning Style Guru and so sad to say this will be my last semester, as I am graduating and moving on to this scary place called the “real world.” SOS!
Fashion has always been something that I seemed to get. Getting ready for school when I was younger was one of my favorite things to do and I was reading Vogue before I could spell my own name. The hallway from my parent’s room to mine was my runway and I was the Gisele Bundchen of my household, modeling my mother’s clothing. When I wasn’t the model, I was the stylist making my baby dolls, Build-A-Bears and even little brother the most stylish Fashionistas/os in the world (or at least, in my own eyes).
My personal style varies from day to day, not limiting myself to any specific trend. Fashion is all about your freedom of expression and there are endless opportunities to do so. Fashion is also all about experimenting and when you take risks, you can eventually discover your own look. I am still in my experimenting stage. Even though I am open to all of the limitless possibilities of the fashion world, I tend to gravitate towards simplicity and the darkest of colors. These pieces tend to be timeless, and with such minimalistic pieces come infinite looks. Some great minimalistic pieces I’m wearing are a black sheer kimono and black booties. I added a splash of fun to my ensemble with a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses
As I am forced to grow up and move on to the big people world, I hope for fashion to be my guiding light. Being a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista has taught me to not to only shine light on popular trending looks, but to discover new ones. Spotting those Fashionistas/os on campus taking risks and branching out brings such excitement to me. I am like a kid in a candy store! In fashion, it’s important to go against the norm and create your own look—that’s how new trends come about!
Keep an eye out for my posts this semester every Wednesday and see who’s taking risks on my campus!
