Hello my fellow Fashionista and Fashionistos! The time has come again for another STYLE GURU BIO! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Ali Stern. I am currently a junior pursuing a degree in Fashion Merchandising. I am extremely excited to be a part of the Style Guru team for another semester at Illinois State University.
To me, fashion is a form of expression and can be empowering. The way a person dresses can directly relate to their attitude or mood. It also tells us who someone is and is not. I have found this out firsthand because the days I put a cute outfit on, I feel more productive and confident. I feel like I can tackle any situation that heads my way. Ever since my very first day on campus as a freshman and still today, I wake up every morning and get excited to walk to class because I get to see what others are wearing. I can’t wait to document the Fashionistas/os I find.
I feel that my style varies day-to-day. My closet is full of denim shirts, ‘70s shirts and jeans and casual soft shirts inspired by Brandy Melville. Lately, many designers who have put a monochromatic ensemble down the runway have inspired me. Two of my favorite looks are denim on denim and white on white. Also, my go-to jeans are mid-rise, usually with some rips on them. Rips are a fun way to spice up an outfit and make any attire look edgy. To achieve a monochromatic look, I am wearing a denim shirt from Nordstrom Rack, boyfriend jeans from Urban Outfitters (which are super comfortable) and brown booties from Target. I am also wearing my go-to choker necklace from Topshop. This has been my favorite necklace to wear since it’s subtle and is a throwback to the ‘90s.
Last semester, CollegeFashionista taught me many valuable skills, such as improving my writing ability and learning to step out of my comfort zone to approach Fashionistas/os. I’m super excited to embark on this journey again while trying to capture the most fashionable Redbirds on campus.
