STYLE GURU BIO: Aliviah Jones

Hey Fashionistas/os, my name is Liv. I’m so exited to be interning with CollegeFashionista. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, so I can’t wait to see what is in store for this new year and new semester!

I’m a junior studying journalism at Virginia Commonwealth University located in Richmond, which if you didn’t already know, is actually a pretty artsy city—and I love it. After I graduate, I want to pursue a career in fashion journalism, maybe working for Refinery29 and some day Vogue, but that is way down the road of my life! Some might say, “Why would you ever want to go to college that is located right in the middle of city?” But so far, I’m really enjoying it. Because I go to school in the city, I get to be surrounded by so many different walks of life, people are not afraid to wear what they want. VCU has to be one of the most fashionable schools in Virginia. There are so many opportunities relating to fashion that students can be a part of, such as clubs, organizations, and study abroad opportunities.

My style ranges from urban chic to boho chic. I love color blocking and mixing patterns. Taking neutral and vivid colors and putting them together can really pull an outfit together and make it stand out more. A lot of my inspiration for outfits comes from movies and TV shows. I’m a big fan of Sex in the City and Gossip Girl. I can dress like Serena van der Woodsen everyday if I really wanted to. I often look to Pinterest when I’m having trouble putting garments together.

Today I’m wearing an outfit inspired by one of my favorite movies that I think is really fashionable: Clueless. I paired a plaid skirt with pink fuzzy sweater. These two patterns mixed well together. The mix makes the outfit more fun and sassy. Also, the two different textures paired together quite nicely. And you can’t forget about accessories! I wore a wide-brimmed hat and a black bucket bag. When it comes to personal style, it’s always changing, but I like to stay consistent with trying new things.
