Hey there, Fashionista/o! I’m Allessa Faustino, or Ally for short. This is my second semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru and I couldn’t be more excited! This semester, I am a sophomore in sunny San Diego and am currently attending San Diego State University with a major in Graphic Design.
Although it is technically the beginning of the fall season, San Diego decided to delay fall this year and keep summer around for just a little bit longer. But I mean, who’s complaining? The key to dressing for San Diego’s ever-beautiful weather is to layer your cute summer staples. Because we all know about those dreaded 8am classes we need to catch, we also know that San Diego is really windy and really chilly early in the morning. This is where layering becomes super important, but not in the “I’m dressed for the snow” kind of way. Just in the “I’m cold but so ready for the beach” kind of way!
Today, I decided to play around with the athleisure trend. I threw on my latest favorite beachy top, my white embroidered crop top and instead of pairing it with a pair of classic high-waisted denim shorts, I paired it with white high-waisted shorts. This is mainly because wearing the same colored top and bottom give the illusion of height. It’s like wearing a black maxi dress for example, versus wearing a red crop top with a black high-waisted skirt. The black maxi is sure to make your body look instantly longer. To stay warm during my early morning classes, I threw on a fitted light-wash denim jacket. Since I was wearing all-white, I opted to wear a light wash denim jacket because I wanted the contrast between the white and denim to be less stark, also creating the illusion of a longer torso. I decided to bring back the ’80s trend and paired my denim jacket with some retro vintage sunnies for later in the afternoon when the sun came out. As for the athleisure trend, I always loved seeing girls match their Nikes to a cute outfit that wasn’t necessarily just meant for the gym. I opted to wear my sneakers on my first day of school because they’re perfect for running all over campus from class to class while still keeping my feet comfortable. Comfy and chic, all rolled into one awesome pair of kicks!
I can’t wait to share more about my style and tips with all my the Fashionista/os out there this semester!
