Hello everyone! My name is Allison Schnathmann, and I am a junior at Florida State University pursuing a degree in Retail Merchandising and Product Development. I am so excited to be studying something that I really love, and I am just as excited to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this semester!
As a little girl I always had an interest in wearing my mom’s high heels, but my point of view of fashion completely changed the day my grandmother gave me an old book about fashion through the eras. My grandmother had studied fashion merchandising in college and had held on to a book that contained detailed drawings depicting how fashion had drastically changed throughout history. The cover was torn up and the pages were well worn and well read, but opening that book showed me that even though I was growing up it didn’t mean I had to stop playing dress up. I was mesmerized seeing how women dressed years before me; each style so different yet so trendy and relevant to the particular time period. It was then that I became obsessed with fashion and found myself sketching designs in notebooks and scanning magazines to learn the latest trends. Even though my drawing skills are not the best, my appreciation and love of fashion is still growing to this day!
I tend to wear lots of basic pieces—mostly neutral colors and denim—but this past summer I have become utterly obsessed with dresses. They are so easy to throw on, and I wear one pretty much every single day. I have especially been enjoying high neck dresses like this one from Free People. While the fabric is covered in a busy pattern, the muted colors make it easy on the eyes and even easier for everyday wear. I also love nude colored shoes, and I’ve found that gladiators or lace up sandals really help to elongate the leg and add an extra bit of detail to an outfit. Stacking bracelets is one of my signature looks; as you can almost always find me with at least two bracelets on at a time. Wearing a bralette under a dress can always help add a little extra detail to any outfit as well.
I am so excited to see what this semester brings, and I can’t wait to represent Florida State University in the CollegeFashionista community!
