Hey Fashionistas/os! I’m Allison, and I’m so excited to start my first semester as a Style Guru. I am absolutely loving my sophomore year at the University of Iowa, where I’m getting to pursue writing and photography, and now my love for fashion as a Style Guru! I am majoring in journalism and mass communication, and I love using writing and fashion as outlets of self-expression. So the opportunity to write about fashion equals total praise hands emoji.
As for my personal style, it is always changing. My closet is equal parts Nikes and high heels, boho and street chic, lace and leather. With eight am classes and subzero temperatures, it can be so tempting to wear your Monday class sweats to your Tuesday classes as well—we’ve all been there—but I like the challenge of turning your favorite groutfit into a look that’s all your own with even the smallest pieces. I love to experiment with new styles and I could never pick a favorite trend, but I would take Gigi Hadid’s closet in a heartbeat.
I’m a firm believer in many things: that black is still the new black, the idea that you can never have enough boots, and that comfortable doesn’t have to mean sloppy. I’m a big fan of mixing textures, like the soft knit of a sweater with the structure and sheen of leather. For this particular outfit, I paired a leather skirt and flared heel booties with a slouchy sweater that hung off the shoulder. While the skirt and shoes made the outfit dressy enough for an evening event, the sweater was perfect to keep me comfy and cozy all night long. I also added some simple gold jewelry and one of my favorite layered chokers to add some edge and to offset the neutrals of the outfit. For more of a daytime look, some sneakers would be great to switch out for the heels, especially if you have a big campus to cross everyday.
I can’t wait for the rest of this #RAD semester and to meet more Fashionistas on campus!
