My name is Alyce Wang, a junior at the University of Wisconsin Madison. I am majoring in Art History and Economics with a certificate in Material Culture. If there was an exciting career that would allow me to “follow my heart”, fashion would be he it. I am starting my journey with fashion this summer as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista.
I fell in love with the fashion world when I was a little girl. I not only dressed my Barbie dolls, but also made my own “designer couture dresses” for them. During middle school, I “wasted” so much time sketching people and clothes when I should have done my homework. I have a habit of collecting street snaps of celebrities. My fashion idol was Ashlee Simpson when I was in middle school. Some punk and metal elements from her influenced me in a profound way. The Devil Wears Prada is the movie that guided me to the fashion and beauty industry.
As an international student from China, I gained some insights on styles across regions and cultures. I like to analyze people through their styles and tastes because what you wear represents who you are. My attitude towards fashion is: “Don’t be a follower, be a leader.”  Having your own style, in some way, means you know who you really are. I hope people do not simply follow the “fashion,” but define their own styles. As a feminist, I would love to use fashion as a tool to give women an independent spirit and power. Fashion can bring out in every women her best self and give her the confidence to face every stage of life. Beauty comes from every race, every color, every gender and every age. I look up to women who achieve a balance between their life and work like Victoria Beckham and Rachel Zoe.
My typical look is a basic black shirt and a distressed black denim jean, paired with black boots and a black leather handbag with golden hardware.
I would love to know and meet with anyone who is passionate about fashion like I am. Feel free to connect with me on social media. Most importantly, stay classy and fabulous!
