A certain beauty encompasses the way a writer can string words together to create meaning and evoke an emotion. Just as a seamstress creates art with every stitch, joining pieces of fabric together. These two actions are very different, yet each one greatly interests me.
I am currently a sophomore transfer student at Marist College studying Public Relations and Fashion Merchandising. I am incredibly passionate about these fields and feel like I have found my true calling. Looking back on my life I can see that writing and fashion have helped construct who I am today. I may not have realized it at the time, but these two components were always shaping my passions.
At age five, I can recall sitting on my Nana’s bed as she shared her unique and ever growing collection of vintage jewelry and clothing. It was enchanting and suddenly I was hooked. However, as a child I didn’t quite realize that what I was so interested in, was fashion. Fast forward to middle school. I learned to sew in my Home Economics class and loved it so much that I ordered extra fabric to sew that summer. Granted I only got half way through my creation, but nonetheless, I genuinely enjoyed learning this new skill. As far as writing goes, my early summers were spent writing movie scripts at my uncle’s pool. Unfortunately, none ever made it to the big screen, since my older sisters didn’t exactly enjoy taking acting directions from a seven-year-old.
Anyway the point is that many of these small moments in my life attributed to the big picture. I mixed my interests together after realizing that I loved to write and could never take my mind off the idea of fashion. Of course, I have come to the conclusion that becoming a New York City PR #girlboss is my destiny! (If you caught the Sophia Amoruso reference then this article is meant for you). CollegeFashionista has given me an outlet to share my fashion obsession through writing. This will be my second semester as a Style Guru, and I can’t wait to share my favorite trends and style tips. Fashion allows you to be anything you desire. On any given day you can find me in a flowing bohemian floral dress but that night I could easily whip out my fur coat and glamorous sunglasses. Personally there isn’t just one style that defines me; I wear what makes me feel confident, and that is my best piece of fashion advice.
