Everyone knows that a lot can change in just a few short months. With time, not only do trends and styles evolve, but your overall self can turn a complete 180. As we grow older it becomes more obvious that these changes keep happening even faster, but they lead us into the next bright and exciting chapter of our lives.
This spring will be my third semester writing for CollegeFashionista. Looking back on the past few months, it is clear my life has changed in the craziest of ways/ Even my wardrobe has begun to take on a new style of its own! My past two semesters at CollegeFashionista consisted of preparing to transfer colleges and then doing everything possible to be accepted into my new school’s fashion program, all while adjusting to a new environment and forcing myself to go after every, single opportunity that came my way. It wasn’t easy, but I can finally say that I am a sophomore studying fashion merchandising and public relations at Marist College. Now, that feels good to say! It was a long road, but every experience and bend in the road brought me to this point and I wouldn’t change a thing.
After an exhausting couple of months, I am looking forward to beginning my third semester at CollegeFashionista going in the direction of my dreams. I changed schools and added a new major to pursue a career in fashion, and it was hard work that made it happen. Fashion has always struck me as a creative and intricate form of expression. It brings patterns and textiles to life, allowing just one person’s vision to affect so many people. It may often seem like just clothing on a hanger, but when traced back to the original designer, it is so beautiful to see the story and deep thought that went into each choice of color, silhouette and detail. Fashion excites me and I can’t wait to continue sharing my favorite looks on campus this semester through CollegeFashionista.
As for my style, I choose to wear whatever makes me feel my best, whether that’s going full glam just for class or rocking sweatpants and Adidas on a train ride home. In this look I paired a classic black turtleneck with a trendy silver pleated skirt that is perfect for winter. For shoes, a strappy pair of black heels are my go-to for every formal occasion.
On a final note, my biggest piece of advice for anything in life is to go the extra mile. Dreams don’t work unless you do, and I fully stand by that statement. Email that professor for the third time, even if they haven’t responded to you in a week. Reach out to your old soccer coach who now works at your dream job in New York City, because no one will do the work for you. The only person that can create your dream life is you, and the time to start is now.
