I believe in overdressing, because what’s wrong with being fabulous? I believe in mascara and freshly washed hair. I believe in fashion, and I believe in myself.
Hello Fashionistas/os, my name is Amanda, and I’m one of the newest CollegeFashionista Style Gurus. I’m a sophomore marketing major at the University of New Haven, home of the Chargers. I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am to begin this amazing journey. Fashion has been a huge part of my life ever since I knew how to dress myself. I pride myself in always dressing up, even when others would consider it a little too much. I have the reputation amongst my friends as everyone’s go-to “personal stylist”, which I take very seriously of course.
Spring semesters are always so much fun. The weather starts to get warmer, outdoor concerts are held once again and heavy jackets become completely optional. At the University of New Haven, we count down the days until spring weekend. Spring weekend features an amazing concert (last spring weekend we had Krewella), a comedian and tons of outdoor activities. Since we’re in an area with not much to do besides downtown clubs and local bars, this is one of our favorite weekends on campus. Despite being a somewhat small campus community, our fashion game is off the charts. During my first semester at UNH, I can easily say I was surprised with how many people, both guys and girls, take how they dress so seriously. Being able to capture and write about the fashion on my campus is truly an honor.
During my high school years I would spend countless hours reblogging fashion-related Tumblr posts and trying to recreate the looks I saw with my own wardrobe and cheap digital camera. I also enjoyed taking the fashion quizzes on Seventeen’s website. Although, I can honestly say that Vera Wang has been one of my greatest inspirations. The dresses she creates are always absolutely stunning, and she isn’t afraid to take risks, which I really love. Standing out from the crowd and not being afraid of trying new fashion risks are two things I try to incorporate with my style daily.
I believe that fashion is just another way to express oneself, just like music taste and favorite colors. To possess style, however, is a skill that can be improved upon every day. Knowing how to dress for particular occasions, knowing how to match patterns, choosing which shoe to pair with an outfit are all important things to have knowledge of.
My goal is to bring you articles that not only go into depth on particular trends on my campus, but to also inspire you to take pride in how you dress. I’m so excited to bring you the amazing looks the University of New Haven has to offer. Keep an eye out for my weekly Thursday posts this semester and for my awkwardly-short-but-well-dressed self on UNH’s campus.
