Hi there stylish people! They say the third time is the charm, right? Well I sure hope so, since this semester marks my third with CollegeFashionista. I love writing for this site because it has allowed me so many rad opportunities already and I feel super grateful for each one of them.
While I have an undying love for all things foreign language and travel, something I will always have my heart set on as a career path lies in the editorial world of fashion. Honestly, before I started writing for CollegeFashionista, the closest thing I came to any fashion-related work was my delicately curated street style board on Pinterest. But somewhere in the middle of my first semester as a Style Guru something clicked and I realized that I’d rather pursue this industry over anything else.
Coming back to UCLA for my second year, I switched my major to Communication Studies (for obvious reasons) and immersed myself in whichever clubs and organizations my campus had to offer. Culminating at the end of this semester was a huge success: receiving an award from the Fashion Scholarship Fund, that made this great big glamorous industry hit a little closer to home.
As for my personal style, I have a serious penchant for those unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that can only be found in a vintage or consignment store. I’ve created a considerable portion of my wardrobe out of such second-hand gems. Case in point: this pair of look alike Valentino “rockstud” flats (similar here) that I picked out at a consignment store, no doubt for less than 15 dollars. Combined with a little bit of DIY frayed denim, this pairing proves that a lot of times, style really is “all in the details.“ I may be wearing a muted palette of grays and blacks, but it’s the subtleties that make this outfit what it is: a frayed hem, an earful of dainty piercings and a coat that all but dusts the floor.
Of course, no outfit of mine would be complete without having an element of relevancy to a current trend or to pop culture in general. My favorite gift from the holidays this year? The ability to advertise my undying infatuation with a certain cruciferous vegetable on my shirt. See Beyoncé’s music video to 7/11.
Now that you know a little more about moi, be sure to keep up with my Thursday posts and see what I have in store for 2015!
