Growing up, I attended a Catholic school that required me to wear a hideous plaid uniform that was far from the glamour of Serena and Blair in Gossip Girl. During my time there, I was a rule-abiding goody two-shoes who judged her classmates for wearing skirts that stopped above their knees and for neglecting to tuck their blouses in.
While I was a bit of an outsider during my Catholic school years, one of my sisters was friends with a select group of girls in her class. From them, she got an idea of what was “in.” So I started to take note, mostly because she called me out on my hideous style choices—namely my hideous rendition of the UGGs trend: bootcut jeans, UGGs and Aeropostale emblazoned T-shirts. By the time high school came around, I finally understood that skinny jeans, no matter how uncomfortable, were cute.
Since then, my sense of style has improved drastically and even gone beyond my clothing. Last year, I traded in my long locks for a lob. About two months into college, I bleached my hair. Since bleaching it, I’ve dyed my hair lavender, blue and teal. Next up is rose gold.
Bleaching my hair was the biggest change I’ve ever made to my appearance. Since then, my style has begun to emulate my personality much more. While it’s still constantly changing, I’ve grown to love following and investing in the latest trends and dressing up. Style allows me to stand out and express myself. Most importantly, it gives me confidence.
Here, I am wearing my favorite Forever 21 T-shirt, gold NYX eyeliner to make my eyes pop and Aquamarine by Arctic Fox for my hair color.
I hope you enjoy my articles as much as I love writing them!
