Hey there Fashionistas/os! I’m Annabelle, a sophomore at Penn State University. Recently, due in large part to this internship and some realizations about myself, I changed my major to public relations/advertising. I’m double majoring in Chinese and minoring in political science. I’ve written for CollegeFashionista in the past and doing so has continued to foster and enrich my love for fashion.
In fact, after writing for CollegeFashionista and seeing the amazing Instagram profiles of so many other Style Gurus, and learning that many of them had their own fashion blogs, I finally took the plunge and launched my own blog (mixedhues.wordpress.com if you’re interested!) this year where I will be talking about fashion, feminism, and more.
Growing up, I didn’t really understand fashion. I attended a Catholic school, where my skirt had to be knee-length and my blouse had to stay tucked in all day. I wore Hush Puppies shoes for seven years of my life until I transferred to a public middle school. I had no idea how to dress myself after wearing only plaid for half of my life and spent all of middle school and the start of high school wearing clothing that I would be ashamed to even own now.
By junior year, however, I finally started to understand how to dress myself, due in large part to my image-obsessed (for better or worse) sister. I started to develop my own style and when I ended up at Penn State, a school in which students wear Penn State gear consistently, fashion became my way of maintaining my individuality and expressing myself.
I’ve come to view fashion as more than the clothes I wear. Fashion is about how I present myself to others and how I express myself. Fashion gives me confidence, because who doesn’t feel great about themselves when they look and feel their best? Sometimes it seems like it’s merely keeping up with the trends, but to me, fashion is an art. It’s about making the trends your own by curating the pieces in your closet and creating outfits to express your individuality.
In this post, I have my favorite crushed velvet bodysuit on, some raw-hemmed jeans, and pink Adidas sneaks. To keep things simple and sweet, I chose a small heart necklace. I’m so excited to return this semester! CollegeFashionista has brought me a newfound appreciation for fashion that I’m so excited to share with you all.
