Hello fashion lovers! My name is Annie Schirm, and I am a rising junior at Babson College, where I plan to concentrate in marketing or sales, ideally in the fashion industry.
I may not go to a fashion school per se, but fashion is something that I have always been interested in and wanted a career in because I am passionate about fashion. I am convinced that I would enjoy any job in the fashion industry because I would be working with what I love! At Babson, there are so many different takes on the latest trends and I am constantly inspired by the unique styles so many students have.
My love for fashion started in elementary school. When most kids went home and watched cartoons, I would turn to Project Runway or America’s Next Top Model. Soon after, I bought my first book on style and fashion, Tim Gunn’s “A Guide to Quality, Taste & Style.” My mother also inspired me by teaching me how to sew and keeping me dreaming about all of the different clothing items I could create. Even now when I am browsing Pinterest, I ask myself if I would actually need to buy a piece of clothing or if I could recreate it on my own.
I don’t follow a particular “style”, but simply my closet is made up of clothes that caught my eye and I enjoy. I see clothing as a sculpture, and I try to buy pieces that I know will serve me for a long time and add character to my appearance. I suppose it all depends on how I feel when I go to buy clothing – some days I’m feeling preppy, sometimes bohemian, and other days the only thing I’ll look at is clothing with giant flower prints or dainty designs. If I have an 8:00 a.m. class that I’m hurrying to, I’ll typically be caught in leggings and whatever comfy top I first find, but other days I’ll have a very polished look and maybe even add some extra makeup that I would skip when in a hurry. One of the best things for me is finding an item that is easy to wear and will always step up an outfit, such as a pair of booties or a fun jacket.
One accessory that I can always be found wearing is my Fitbit. One of the best gifts I recently received was the Tory Burch Fitbit bracelet, because it allowed me to wear my Fitbit for more dressy occasions. Along with my Fitbit, I always wear at least one more accessory. I typically turn to pearl earrings or a ring to complete my look.
As I start my role as a Style Guru, I am excited to see what other looks I will find around campuses, and I cannot wait to share them all with you!
