STYLE GURU BIO: Ariana Selimi

Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” This is one of my favorite quotes by my favorite fashion icon, and I figured that I would share it with my fellow Fashionistas.

Fashion has been a prominent part of my life ever since I can remember. My mother would use my sister and me as her own life-size dolls to dress up in elaborate, matching outfits. We were undoubtedly the trendiest little girls with our fluffy dresses and leopard berets. While that lasted for many years, we quickly learned the phrase, “I want to dress myself!” With that, the invention of my personal style began.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Ariana Selimi, and I am thrilled to be a part of CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru! I am entering my senior year at Centenary College as a Business major with a minor in Fashion. I was born and raised in New Jersey, but I am not the typical Jersey girl. I am from a small, rural town in the north, where the cows basically overpopulate the people. Often, I think about traveling to thriving cities. Don’t get me wrong, Green Township has shaped me into the individual I currently am. However, I crave more—that certain je ne sais quoi is still missing. I have an itch to experience other locations once I graduate in the spring.

Recently, I traveled abroad to Europe. I had the chance to immerse myself in the cultures and fashions that Rome, Paris and London have to offer. To me, fashion is an art. I am captivated by individual style, and I find pure enjoyment out of seeing how others express themselves. Similarly, the way I dress creates a sense of self-expression and confidence for me. When it comes to my style, I tend to stick to gray and black tones in my clothing. Also, my makeup is for the most part, neutral. However, I do like to add a little something with a pop of color every now and then with either my makeup or accessories. I believe that a vibrant accessory or a bold lip can enhance an outfit.

The beauty of fashion is that what is in one day can be out the next. The evolution of fashion is thrilling, and it allows us to be creative and experiment with our looks. Just remember that confidence is your best accessory! As long as you’re comfortable and having fun with your look, that’s all that matters. I look forward to sharing my ideas and findings with you all this semester.
