Hi Fashionista/os! This is my first semester with the CollegeFashionista team. I’m an Interdisciplinary Film and Digital Media major at The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
I grew up In Thailand on the southern island of Koh Samui. Living in a tourist destination gave me the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, often being passed a camera asked to take countless family photos for them. I often played the game of guessing the nationality of a tourist by their fashion and style of dress.
Living on an island that had limited access to media, I thirsted for information on the outside world. Luckily for me, the items most often left by the tourists were glossy fashion magazines, which I grabbed from the lobbies and libraries of the many resorts, and spent hours pouring though the pages.
I have always enjoyed being able to dress up and become a different person. Living in the tropics, I was mostly limited to swimming suits and sarongs, but once I moved to New Mexico, I was able to investigate fashion for all seasons. I’m intrigued by how the choice of clothing can play with the perception of which part of the earth I am from and alter the way I project myself.
The spring semester in Albuquerque, New Mexico offers many fun outdoor events, from The River of Lights to the many skiing and snowboarding resorts. The winter attractions draw tourists to the area, producing a fun mixture of fashions from many different places. UNM is a wonderfully diverse school and I’m excited to show the styles of my fellow Lobos. Come find me walking around UNM’s campus!
