Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Ashley Kirkland and I’m a first year at Drake University, working towards a double degree in Magazine Media and Graphic Design.
In addition to studying hard and exploring all that Des Moines, Iowa has to offer, I run my own lifestyle and style blog Sincerely Swaykay. I have always had a passion for photography and style watching, which leads to my desire to work in the fashion industry!
Even though I grew up in a small town in Iowa, my personal style mirrors more of a laid back city dweller, with a flare of comfort. I have been an athlete since I could walk and that ultimately shaped my style decisions to reflect on my vast collection of flannel shirts and beanies for when I’m on the run from early morning practice to class. Even though I will not be playing sports in college, I will always hold my Nike’s near and dear to my heart (especially when paired with boyfriend jeans).
Overall, my style can be described as anything but expected. I grew up flipping through fashion magazines such as Teen Vogue and Marie Claire. To me, style is a way of expressing yourself without having to explain yourself. When you wake up in the morning, you have an empowering choice to be unapologetically yourself, which includes what you wear.
