Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Ashley Kirkland and I’m a first year at Drake University, working towards a double degree in Magazine Media and Graphic Design. I can’t wait to begin my second semester as a Fashionista! In addition to studying hard and exploring all that Des Moines, Iowa has to offer, I work on the Drake Magazine staff as a photographer. I have always had a passion for photography and style watching, which leads to my desire to work in the magazine industry! Now that I have officially been in the city for a semester, I have seen my style adapt as so.
My personal style mirrors more of a laid back city dweller, with a flair of comfort. I am a sucker for always splurging for my signature leather boots but love a good oversized sweater with skinny jeans for a cozy display. Overall, my style can be described as anything but expected. I grew up flipping through fashion magazines such as Teen Vogue and Marie Claire. To me, style is a way of expressing yourself without having to explain yourself. When you wake up in the morning, you have an empowering choice to be unapologetically yourself, which includes what you wear. I can’t wait to continue to share more style advice with you as I capture the styles of my fellow Fashionistas/os on Drake’s Campus. Cheers to a new year and great style!
