Hi CollegeFashionista world, it’s nice to see you again! My name is Ashley Thigpen, and I’m returning for my third semester as a Style Guru at the University of South Carolina, this time as a junior at USC, where I am completing a double major in Visual Communications and Fashion Merchandising, with a minor in Photography. Over the past few years of my CollegeFashionista and college careers, I’ve managed to change my major, add a major, get a job I love and successfully finish three years of college; but the two things that have continuously managed to stay the same in my life is being a Style Guru, and the way music and art have cultivated my style. I find art in anything and everything and that inspires how I dress, which can be anywhere from ’90s cult television shows, like X-Files, to The Smiths’ lyrics and anything in-between!
I’m normally not a skirt person, something about them just scares me a little, but when I saw this pleated skirt in American Apparel, I just knew I had to have it. I slipped it on and immediately felt like Audrey Horne from Twin Peaks, which is why I chose to stick with a simple mock-neck black-and-white striped top that was just enough throwback to make me feel nostalgic. I paired this ensemble with my emerald green, chunky Mary Jane shoes by Vagabond, that are my current obsession since buying them in a weak moment before my Media Law exam. I kept my accessories simple with my favourite marble necklace that I finally got back after letting my sister borrow it… for a year.
I’m excited to be back as a Style Guru this spring at USC, and remember to keep checking back for new posts throughout the semester!
