Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Assata Terrell and this is my second semester writing for CollegeFashionista. I am a senior fashion business major at Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois. Outside of fashion, I love to work on film and TV projects as a wardrobe stylist and I also work in retail. I’m super excited to be able to put Chicago street style on the map and especially to showcase the incredible style off of Columbia’s campus. In this outfit I am wearing a pink blazer with a vintage band T-shirt, black jeans and black Converse. And to keep me safe from the cold front of Lake Michigan, I’ve added a head scarf and an oversized, chevron draper coat. I chose this outfit for my STYLE GURU BIO because I think it perfectly showcases my personal style. I love to find the perfect balance of masculine and feminine.
I have always been a big thrift shopper as well so much of this outfit is thrifted or vintage, like the Smiths band T-shirt or my oversized draper coat. On a typical day I can usually find myself drifting towards outfits with lots of stripes, accessories and a nice mix of vintage and new pieces. I also wear more black pieces and mix in pop of color or a statement lipstick color. I always like to look toward my own personal style icons, like Zoe Kravitz, Alexa Chung and Julia Sarr-Jamois. Outside of having great style, they exude a great level of confidence that instantly completes their look. Adding in a vintage band t-shirt or some classic Converse, you can add a bit of a casual edge to dress down an outfit. Or add a pop of color to an all-black outfit with a colored or printed blazer. I wrote over the 2015 summer semester so it will be fun to capture students during the Chicago winter and I’m so excited to continue with the rest of the semester and show off some wonderful Fashionistas/os!
