Where do I start? My name is Autumn, and I’m going into my third year studying Communications at the University of Toledo. This will be my second semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, and I’m so excited for this summer.
Last semester really made me evaluate my style and what I’m drawn to wear. And let me tell you—I was shocked and relieved to have a sense of direction with my style.
But before I get to that, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Cleveland but moved a couple times, and now my family stays in Grand Blanc, MI. In a town like Grand Blanc, you don’t really see any trendsetters, and it’s more of keeping up with the latest trends, which didn’t bother me until I realized that I needed to find my own style. That meant that I thought I liked really interesting pieces over the basic pieces and neutral colors, but when reality kicked in, let’s just say black has become my favorite color.
So, what’s my style? I would say that I like wearing sleek, basic pieces with a modern edge to them. Basic pieces are blank canvases that you can do anything with, and I guess that’s why I love them so much. I also like to play with my makeup, so wearing neutral colors in my clothing paired with a bright lip is normally my go-to style. Today, I wore black denim overalls strapped to my waist, and I paired them with a black high-collar halter top. On my feet, I wore my Steve Madden ankle cutout boots, which are my absolute favorite shoes right now.
My motto that I’m going by lately is, “Don’t be afraid of the all-black look, but don’t lose the color along the way.” This means that just because I can go for an all-black look anytime, I shouldn’t lose sight of wearing color.
I’m so excited to see what you Fashionistas/os will be wearing this summer! Look out for the Fashionista/os in northern Ohio every Thursday.
