STYLE GURU BIO: Avery Alsandor

Hey guys, I’m Avery! I’m a senior at Louisiana State University majoring in public relations with a minor in fashion. This will be my first semester as a Style Guru, and I’m super excited to join this team of creatives!

I’ve taken an interest in fashion since I was a little girl, but it didn’t become serious until I was older. When I was about 14 years old, I watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s for the first time. This movie, and eventually Audrey Hepburn’s own personal style, altered my passion for fashion to a quite severe obsession with style. Everything about that movie—the famous black Givenchy dress, the bathtub sofa, her beige cowl neck with black trousers ensemble and of course, New York City—had me hooked. Holly Golightly perfectly executed this effortless glamor that I had never seen before. From then on, I’ve been obsessed with finding inspiration to shape my own effortless style.

Music has been a huge presence throughout my life and really influenced the way I looked at fashion. I grew up listening to blues and ’70s rock with my dad, and ’80s pop with my mom. Freddie Mercury, Mick Jagger, Jimi Hendrix, Madonna, and Cher are all major style icons of mine. The thing I appreciate most about fashion is that it’s constantly morphing. There’s always a new way to approach a certain look and to completely reinvent yourself. My personal style has evolved many times, but right now it’s probably best defined as a casual, minimalistic take on bohemian/rock’n’roll chic. If anyone knows how how to make that description sound a little more pretentious, I’m open to suggestions.

I decided on a classic band T-shirt and high-wasted denim combo to introduce my casual approach to dressing. On the 10 days a year in southern Louisiana when it’s not 100 degrees outside, you can always catch me in this leather jacket. I love that it adds the perfect amount of edge to any outfit. I’m obsessed with these snake skin booties because they’re a great way to sneak in some unexpected animal print. I found the Queen T-shirt at a thrift store in New Orleans. When I saw Freddie staring back at me like that, I knew I had to have it. I finished the look with these circular Ray Ban sunglasses because they bring a Jon Lennon vibe to the table, but in a modern way.

I’m so pumped to be a part of this awesome team and can’t wait to learn from everyone! Be sure to keep up with me via social media, I’d love to connect with you! Mood board making is my happy place, so check out my Pinterest for some serious lifestyle inspo.
