Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Barbara Fosu, and I am currently a senior at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where I am pursuing a major in linguistics and a minor in Spanish. This is going to be my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, and words cannot fully explain my full excitement for having this great opportunity of being part of this fashionable community!
To begin with myself, I enjoy dancing, reading multicultural articles online, discussing social issues, watching YouTube vloggers, blogging, reading wise quotes, cracking jokes, and hanging out with friends.
With linguistics as a major and Spanish as a minor, my fashion inspirations and creativity are pulled from a combination of my full interests in different languages, and understanding different cultures and lifestyles. My other inspirations are pulled from celebrities such as Lupita Nyong’o, YouTubers, and fashion bloggers such as Blake Von D. and Micah Gianneli. I am also Vogue Magazine’s number one fan! I adore their mix of fashion and diversity!
I like trends, so I try to match my body type with all the different trends that emerge each year. This makes it difficult to describe myself with a specific personal style. Depending on the kind of day, location, or my mood, my style could be either elegant or sexy, vibrant or metropolitan, and professional or casual. The list goes on. However, I make sure the different styles fit my personality and my way of expression. Also as a Ghanaian American, I follow up with trendy, traditional outfits to help portray a sense of nationality pride and to know more about other traditional fashion origins.
In this article, I went for a simple, casual look since I am starting to become obsessed with pencil skirts. This style was inspired from having a random thought of embracing my body type, as I believe that embracing yourself is the first step to fully know your personal style. With this look, I paired up my golden lace pencil skirt with a black, spaghetti strapped crop top, and a lace-up, open toe heals . For accessories, I wore a golden choker and some golden stud earrings.
Not only do these interests count as just hobbies, but they also urge me to work harder each day to reach my goals of being a successful fashion blogger and working with a premier fashion company. I truly believe in fashion as being a way of identity and expression in many ways. Therefore, I believe that being part of CollegeFashionista is a great way to help me build up more confidence to use my personal style to help me express myself more and to fully prepare me for the fashion world and beyond! I am very excited to be a part of this team!
