Hello beautiful people of the fashion world! To start off my semester with CollegeFashionista, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Bhavini and I’m entering the second semester of freshman year at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. I’m majoring in nutritional sciences-dietetics in pursuit to becoming a Registered Dietitian.
I wouldn’t say being fashionable is something I was born knowing how to do. Until the age of nine, I attended private school which required a uniform of plaid skirts, knee-high socks and polos daily; so I didn’t really have a chance to develop my sense of style until a later age. Entering a new school in a new town with all new people, I felt like a duck out of water. I don’t quite know what sparked my love for fashion, but I knew instantly that fashion would allow me to define myself. Beneath bright color choices and far too much lace, I let my individuality shine through and grew more confident in my own skin without feeling the need to replicate someone I wasn’t. Over years of experimentation to develop my own unique style, I’ve gotten many “what are you even wearing?” ridiculing looks; yet because of this, I’ve developed skin of steel and am not afraid to be myself and take fashion risks.
When you look at the the outfit featured for this article, the mustard yellow of my sweater immediately grabs your attention. Most people normally wouldn’t like wearing colors that will make them stand out, but I personally love to stand out and love to wear bright shades that most people wouldn’t typically wear. For me, bright colors allow me to bring my vibrant personality to life.
When I first got this floral corduroy overall dress, I immediately knew I wanted to pair it with a mustard yellow turtleneck sweater; accentuating the yellow in the floral print and perfectly goes with the warm fall colors of the overalls. I’m not the biggest accessory connoisseur because I like my clothes to make the statement. So, I finished off the outfit with simple cognac flats to add to the warm color scheme of the outfit and navy knee socks to give my legs some warmth.
Bottom line, fashion helps me be and feel like the best version of myself. Confidence is the best thing you can wear, so rock it and own it.
I hope you guys enjoyed getting to know a little bit about me. I’m so thankful and excited for this opportunity. See you Fashionistas/os in my next post!
