Hi! I’m Briana and I am currently a business student studying in the grandeur of New York City. I originally hail from the beautiful land of San Francisco but transported myself to NYC for four years to find adventure, style, and myself (note: I’ve also found fabulous brunch spots along the way). This will be my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I couldn’t be more excited to join this gang of girls all on a quest to share their own fashion choices and that of around them.
Upon living in bicoastal locations, I have observed the way the culture of a city often affects the style within the city. San Francisco is colorful in its culture with a mantra of love and acceptance and Bay-to-Breakers, a race whose uniform is tie-dye rainbow shirts and tutus. New York is simple in all its chaos and its style reflects that often in the form of monochromatic black looks. The trend is chic, yet in a city that stands out, its uniform helps everyone blend in. Ultimately, fashion is representative of cultures, of personalities, and of life. CollegeFashionista is such a unique opportunity to gather fashion perspectives from across the country and beyond!
For my debut outfit, I chose one that represents the city in which I currently reside, New York City. The all-black ensemble also reflects the way that my style has transitioned to fit into this place. I paired together simple high-waisted black jeans, a dark gray turtleneck, and an oversized leather jacket. I love the motorcycle-style of the jacket when it is zipped up and offsets the fitted black pants and heeled booties. To counter the New York monochromatic black, I took a tip from my bright-colored San Franciscan roots and opted for a fresh face and red lipstick (Nars Semi Matte Lipstick in Jungle Red, $28) to finish off the look.
