A common misconception about being a New Yorker is that not all of us live in a hugely crowded city that never sleeps. Although this may be true for some, the rest of us inhabit a plethora of much smaller cities and towns that are often outnumbered in ratio of cows to people.
You might be thinking that this means I wear plaid button-downs and overalls on a daily basis, but us Western New Yorkers can have just as much street style as those in The Big Apple. I am currently working towards a degree in Communications, which means preparing for constantly being on my toes about who I might have to talk to next. As true for me as it is for any other aspiring professional, I believe you should never leave the house without being prepared to meet anyone: a future employer, the president, a fellow Style Guru, etc.
I like to think of my day-to-day look as chic and girly with a hint of edge. I like to balance out the femininity of each outfit with an accessory that counteracts it. In this case, I chose to wear my cargo pants with a high-low, chiffon top. Although one is edgy and the other is chic, the two complement each other in color to balance the look.
I’m also the kind of girl that can’t get enough of accessories. I tend to be attracted to clothing of neutral, subtler colors, followed by a splash of color in whatever accessory I see fit. In this case, my lipstick adds the color I need while also tying in the various shades of peach in my necklace and my rose gold watch.
From years of mixing and matching my outfits, I have always carried the concept with me that everything needs to be balanced by something else.
Any dull outfit can be made marvelous by adding an accessory and creating a focal point. From a nice dinner to a casual shopping trip, I’m anxiously awaiting to show the CollegeFashionista world what I have to offer!
