As a native New Yorker, it is hard to ignore all of the fashion that has surrounded and influenced me throughout my entire life. Though I am from the suburbs just outside of NYC, Manhattan has always been my absolute favorite place to visit, especially for a good dose of people watching. Just standing on a street corner, you witness how every person interprets fashion in a different way, which is what I love most about it.
When I applied to college, I knew immediately that I needed to go somewhere that had action and style. I could not be stuck on a campus in the middle of nowhere doing the same thing day in and day out. I always had the “city girl” in me, which is what ultimately brought me to Boston University. As a freshman, I tried to follow in my father’s footsteps in the health field and chose to study Speech Pathology. Within my first semester, I realized the sciences were definitely NOT for me. During my sophomore year, I took the leap into the communications school and never looked back.
As a collegiate, I notice that I often get asked two questions, “Why fashion?” and “How do you describe your personal style?” Well for starters, I am heavily influenced by my mom’s love for beauty and fashion, but have also always been infatuated with putting different pieces together to create a unique outfit. This creative aspect and ability to express individuality are what interest me most about it. The second question is always harder for me to answer. To be honest, I cannot describe my personal style in just one way because it is extremely versatile. I believe fashion gives people the opportunity to dress in a variety of ways, whether it is bohemian, classic, grungy or even preppy, there are endless choices which is what makes it so fun.
In today’s outfit, I decided to play around with neutrals. I am currently obsessed with the overall trend and think these white overalls from ASOS are perfect to transition from summer to fall. I paired them with a black and white striped tank top from Zara, but can easily throw on a turtleneck or sweater underneath for when the temperatures start to drop.
I use fashion and my outfits as a way to express how I am feeling in that moment and hope that my articles will help give all of you the inspiration to do the same! I am super excited to not only share my own fashion choices with you, but also the awesome trends that span the streets of BU everyday.
