Why hello there, my fellow Fashionista/os! I am so excited to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team. My name is Brittany Minetti and I’m a sophomore at LIM College: Where Business Meets Fashion. I’m majoring in marketing and enjoying college life while living in the heart of Manhattan. As of right now, I don’t have a “five-year plan.” However, I do know that my passion is for fashion (as cliché as that sounds) and I want to work in the publishing and media field. I am a student worker at my school and I produce all of the social media for the alumni department—it has been a pretty rewarding experience!
Since I was a little girl, I have been fascinated with fashion. My parents first noticed it while I was watching 101 Dalmations at the age of four, when I said, “Daddy, aren’t Cruella de Vil’s nails just beautiful?” Of course, they’re pretty strange—long, black talons—but for some reason, I loved them. As a matter of fact, I used to watch that movie over and over again, reveling in Ms. de Vil’s monochromatic outfits and bizarre hairstyles.
Coming from a small town in Pennsylvania, I hadn’t been exposed to the most fashionable people. I gained my inspiration from magazines, TV shows, movies and blogs. Last year, I moved to Manhattan and it seems as though I don’t even need those other resources anymore. Every time I leave my apartment and step onto the city streets, I am immediately inspired by the styles I see. The city is truly a runway in disguise.
As for my style, I don’t exactly have a certain “look.” I admire people who do, though—they seem like they have it all together! Personally, I like to be able to rock anything I want. I think that’s why I tend to stray away from only shopping at one store or sporting a singular style. I guess you could say I’m a bit boho, sporty and chic? The renowned Rachel Zoe says, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” The designer has a great point. What you wear truly says a lot about your personality and attributes. I’d like to think that my style gives off a relaxed, happy and bubbly vibe!
I have always loved photography and writing comes pretty naturally to me. By becoming a Style Guru, I not only plan to exercise those skills, but improve them. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for me. I hope you’re as excited as I am!
Be on the lookout for my posts every Monday!
